Camellia: industrial roofing and sheet metal work

What large-span roofs need here

Industrial sheet roofs fail in ways a house roof does not:

Fixings. Thousands of them, and the sealing washers perish long before the sheet does. A roof that leaks in fifty places at once is usually a fixing problem, not a sheeting problem.

Box gutters and valley gutters. Big spans mean big catchments concentrated into internal gutters. Sole width, fall, freeboard, sump and outlet sizing all matter, and a working overflow that discharges to open air is not optional. Without one, the water goes into the building.

Low pitch and capillary action. On very shallow falls, water is drawn back up a side lap and emerges metres from where it entered. Sheet selection and lap detail decide whether that happens.

Corrosion at the laps and the gutter line. Standing water and trapped debris, especially where a roof has had no maintenance for a decade.

Translucent sheeting. Fibreglass and polycarbonate skylight panels go brittle and yellow, and they are often the first things to fail in hail.

River flats and storms
